Social communication difficulties are a defining factor in an ASD diagnosis. This makes social interactions with others more challenging. Difficulty understanding another\u2019s point of view and the verbal\/nonverbal cues a conversation partner gives. Expressing their wants\/needs\/opinions can also be difficult. Once in school, performance in class and recreation on the playground is impacted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an SLP I am trained to provide assessment and treatment to those diagnosed with Autism. I am trained and have the experience to implement Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHY CALL ME?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve worked with clients along the Autism spectrum, working with their families and educators to identify their strengths and areas for improvement. Each child is unique so I take a holistic approach taking into account family and cultural dynamics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have worked with children diagnosed prior to entering the school system. This speech therapy takes place at home. This age requires intensive parent involvement to set up your child for maximum success. At this age it\u2019s play-based therapy to improve communication of their needs, learning coping skills, and improving social interaction with their family.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have worked in specialized classes for Autism from grade 1 to high school, providing individual and group therapy to the small class. My responsibilities also included consulting with educators and families to support students in mainstream programming.\u00a0 At this age I incorporate a more literacy-based approach to support academic skills and improve social interaction with their peers. Frequent collaboration with those closest to your child help guide us in choosing goals that are relevant and designing activities that will have the greatest impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As your child reaches their teen years I begin to focus on preparation for life after school. They take on more responsibility for identifying goals to work on. We continue to develop social skills for new environments and settings. We target executive functioning skills that will help with employment or college\/university.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
